Lívia Miraglia is an Associate Professor at the Law School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Law at UFMG. She is the Coordinator of the Slavery and Human Trafficking Clinic (CTETP) at UFMG, which provides free legal assistance to survivors of slave labor and human trafficking, raises awareness on these issues, and collaborates with governmental bodies, NGOs, and international organizations to strengthen the legal framework around labor exploitation.
Lívia holds a Post-Doctorate from the University of Brasília (UnB), a PhD in Labor Law from UFMG, and a Master's in Labor Law from PUC/MG. She also serves as the President of the Commission for Combating Contemporary Slavery at OAB/MG. Additionally, she is a lawyer, researcher, and author, having published books and articles on labor law, human rights, and contemporary slavery.
The research at ChainGE Lab is entitled “Modern Slavery in Multinational Companies in Brazil: An Analysis of the Coffee and Cattle Supply Chains” pretends to examine modern slavery in Brazil's coffee and cattle supply chains, analyzing corporate accountability and legal enforcement. It explores how multinational companies comply with global human rights standards and identifies gaps in labor protections. Through case studies and legal analysis, it assesses the effectiveness of corporate due diligence. The goal is to strengthen legal frameworks, advocate for ethical labor practices, and promote corporate accountability in global supply chains.
