Research Associate, School of Management, University of Bath, UK

ChainGE Lab Research Fellow

Dr. Pankhuri Agarwal is a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Management, University of Bath, working on a four-year UKRI-funded project examining exploitation in India’s and the UK’s garment and software value chains. Beyond value chain research, Pankhuri explores the aftermath of modern slavery interventions. Her forthcoming book with Cambridge University Press examines the long-term impact of rescue operations in India. Additionally, she has published reports and media articles analysing the aftermath of the 2020 Boohoo scandal in the UK’s garment industry. Positioned at the intersection of sociology and management studies, her research uniquely bridges research on critical slavery studies, global value chains, and migration.

Pankhuri’s research at ChainGE Lab examines:

a) the intersection of migration and caste in shaping worker exploitation within global value chains, and

b) the impact of digital interventions on migrant workers in global value chains.
